Course Description:
Level 1, Apprentice
Collection/Distribution Ladder
Basic Utility Safety and Field Operations Safety Awareness (3.0 hours) - 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
The Basic Utility Safety and Field Operations Safety Awareness Course is designed to introduce water and
wastewater utility operators to industry specific safety standards and trends. The intent of this course is to assist
in prevention or elimination of hazards in the workplace. This course encompasses general safety concepts
which newly assigned operators must understand in order to safely and effectively work within water and
wastewater systems. In addition, this course addresses the most common associated hazards found within the
industry. The course allows for utility operators to discuss and learn current safety operational trends including,
but not limited to general safety concepts, National Incident Management System, and how Federal and State
occupational safety and health regulations help mitigate hazards through regulatory safety practices.
