Piedmont Model Water Tower Competition Information
Registration (Required) Deadline: Saturday, April 11
Competition Date: Saturday, May 2 (Attendance required at competition)
Time: Competition check-in is from 9-9:30 am.
Participants: Students from the following Piedmont counties are eligible: Alamance, Caswell, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Montgomery, Randolph, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, and Yadkin.
Competitors from the 12-county Piedmont area may work individually or in teams of up to four students in grades 3 through 8 to construct a functional model water tower. (Elementary- and middle-school participants may not combine on one team.) Winners are determined by the tower’s structural and cost efficiency, ability to hold water, aesthetics, and capacity for quick filling and draining.
Students will learn concepts related to water resource engineering, infrastructure, water treatment, and water conservation. Contest organizers hope some participants may develop an interest in the water profession.

Participants: Students from the following Charlotte area counties are eligible: Mecklenburg, Iredell, Cabarrus, Union, Gaston, Lincoln, Rowan, Stanly, Catawba, Cleveland, Alexander
