Nominating Committee

 

Purpose

To provide the membership of NC One Water with a slate of nominees who are capable and willing to serve as officers if elected. (See Bylaws.) To count the ballots to determine the winners for the offices to be filled for the following year.

Organization

The Committee will be comprised of seven members. The Chair of the Nominating and Canvass Committee is elected by the membership. Two members of the Committee shall be the latest past Chairs of the Association. Four members shall be appointed by the Chair of the Association, two per year, and shall serve two-year terms. The Chair of the Association shall make appointments to fill vacancies that may occur from any cause. The Board Liaison is the Association Chair.



Primary Activities

The Nominating Committee shall organize its own operating structure; however, it shall not be permissible for any member of the Nominating Committee to be nominated for an office of this Association during the time that the individual is a member of this Committee. The Committee may make nominations whether at the time it consists of seven or less, but the approval of at least four members of the Nominating and Canvass Committee shall be required for a nomination. It shall be the duty of the Committee to obtain consent of the nominees and verify membership status before officially placing their names in nomination. At least twelve weeks before the annual meeting of the Association this Committee shall notify the Secretary of at least one eligible candidate for each of the offices to be filled and thereby place their names in nomination for those offices.

 

The Nominating and Canvass Committee shall make the following nominations:

Nominee must have a minimum of 2 years prior experience on the Board at time of election.

Trustee
Two Trustees are nominated each year for a two-year term.

AWWA Director
One AWWA Director is nominated every third year for a three-year term. Nominations made in 1990, 1993, 1996, 1999, 2002, 2005, etc. Nominee must have a minimum of two years of prior experience on the Board at time of election.

WEF Director
Two WEF Directors are nominated, staggered, every three years for a three-year term. Nominations made in 1990, 1992, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, etc. Nominee must have a minimum of two years of prior experience on the Board at time of election.

Professional Wastewater Operations Representative
One Professional Wastewater Operations Representative is nominated every other year, staggered with the nomination of the Professional Water Operations Representative.

Chair, Nominating Committee

 

It shall be the responsibility of three members appointed by the Association Chair to count ballots for the next year’s officers at the Annual Meeting. The Nominating and Canvass Committee Chair shall obtain these ballots from the Secretary and shall tabulate votes cast for each candidate for each office including write-in votes. The Chair shall prepare a written report summarizing the findings of the Committee and present the report at the Annual Business Meeting.
