We are very pleased to announce the next meeting of the Western Professional Wastewater Operators Committee will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2022. This meeting will be hosted by the Town of Spindale. It will begin with lunch provided by Black and Veatch, Inc. followed by a tour of the WWTP led by Sibyl Brotherton/Backup ORC and Guy OConnor/Superintendent. Further details are provided below: 

11:30am – 1:00pm: Lunch and presentation at Mi Pueblito Mexican Restaurant

The restaurant is located at 139 S Washington St, Rutherfordton, NC 28139. During lunch, a presentation on polymer use will be provided by Tricia Haler/Aulick Chemical. 

1:30pm – 3:00pm: Tour of the Spindale WWTP 

The Spindale WWTP is located at 327 Ecology Street, Spindale, NC 28160. The WWTP was built in 1967 and is currently rated at 3.0 MGD. Treatment includes screening, grit removal, influent flow metering, biological treatment via extended aeration activated sludge, secondary clarification, chlorine disinfection, and post-aeration. Treated wastewater is discharged to Cathy’s Creek of the Broad River Basin. Biosolids produced by the treatment process are stabilized via aerobic digestion and land applied.  

Operators who have certifications issued by the WPCSOCC will receive 2 contact hours toward their continuing education requirement if they attend both the technical session and the plant tour.
