The MBWWTP is a 13.5 MGD facility that treats wastewater using Biological Nutrient Removal. Originally constructed in 1967 and upgraded in 1992, it consists of preliminary treatment with a newly installed Parkson barscreen followed by 2 extended aerated lagoons, 4 secondary clarifiers, and chlorine gas/sodium bisulfite for disinfection. The solids were treated in a digester but are now handled with a CleanB treatment unit before being pressed and land applied through a contract with Synagro. Designs are being prepared for further upgrades to the facility to switch to diffused aerators in new basins along with switching from gas chlorine to liquid for disinfection.
