The next meeting of the Western Section of the Professional Wastewater Operators Committee will be hosted by the Water and Sewer Authority of Cabarrus County at its Rocky River Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant (RRRWWTP). This is an open meeting, and membership is not required to attend. Please feel free to share the agenda with others who may be interested.

The Rocky River Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant (RRRWWTP) is a two stage 26.5 MGD biological wastewater treatment facility that is owned and operated by the Water and Sewer Authority of Cabarrus County (WSACC). The facility serves a thriving area north of Charlotte, including the cities of Concord and Kannapolis, the towns of Harrisburg and Mt. Pleasant, and Cabarrus County.

The recently upgraded plant uses a 95% pure-oxygen activated sludge biological process, and an upgraded disinfection system that uses sodium hypochlorite for disinfection. An upgraded sludge processing system was completed in 1995. This system includes high solids centrifuges for dewatering, high pressure pumps (originally developed for pumping concrete) for conveying dewatered sludge, and afterburner/wet electrostatic precipitator scrubbing for the incinerator stack gases. More recent additions to the plant have been an imported Bio-solids Handling Facility for receiving imported bio-solids as added fuel for the furnace. The need for additional imported bio-solids is to more fully maximize the furnace heat output potential which is then used to create steam for the recently constructed Heat Recovery/Steam Turbine Generator.

The technical session will present the unique solids handling capabilities of RRWWTP that features high biosolids centrifuges, dewatering biosolids bunkers, piston-type biosolids pumps, flue gas heat exchanger, inlet air velocity nozzles, heat recovery for building heat, wet electrostatic precipitator and an afterburner. Staff members from the Rocky River Wastewater Treatment Plant will present.

Lunch will follow the plant tour at Troutman's Barbecue located at 1388 Warren C. Coleman Blvd, Concord, N.C. 28027.
