3rd Annual Charlotte Model Water Tower Competition
Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Charlotte Water's Lee Dukes Water Treatment Plant in Huntersville, NC.
The Model Water Tower Competition is for elementary (4th and 5th grades) and middle school students. Each individual or team of up to four students will design and build a functioning model water tower that is structurally efficient, holds water, and that can be filled and drained quickly, while also being aesthetically pleasing. Download instruction guidelines.
The towers are judged based upon
- Hydraulic efficiency
- Cost efficiency
- Structural efficiency
- Design ingenuity
The first, second and third place teams in each division will be awarded cash prizes and trophies. There is no cost to enter. First place is awarded $300, Second place $200, and Third place $100.
The objective of the competition is to make participants aware of the importance of reliable drinking water and the rewarding opportunities available in the water profession. The competition does this by having students develop an idea into a functioning water tower, just like water professionals do in the real world!
