NC Currents Article Submission

The North Carolina American Water Works Association and the North Carolina Water Environment Association (NC One Water) requires that all contributors of editorial material to NC Currents magazine review this Publication Agreement prior to submitting material for publication. NC One Water cannot publish the work cited below until a completed and signed agreement has been received from each named author.

Guidelines
General Guidelines
There is no minimum or maximum word count. Articles average 1,200 words. Articles should be long enough to address the topic. You will be contacted if the Editorial Sub-Committee wants the article lengthened or shortened. All articles submitted will be considered. Preference will be given to articles related to an issue’s theme, and those related to North Carolina, and when applicable, those that discuss completed projects. NC Currents is distributed to a broad audience and this should be taken into consideration when writing an article. Abbreviations should be avoided or explained, and acronyms should be spelled out. The purpose of an article should be to educate or inform the audience. Articles promoting a specific product or company (i.e. a sales-pitch) will not be accepted.

Acknowledgement of Rights to Work/Permission to Use Work
I have read and agree to the Acknowledgement *As used herein, the term “Work” shall mean and include the work identified above, and all written versions of the work as submitted by the Author to NC One Water by whatever means, whether such work is submitted before or after the date of this Acknowledgment, and all parts of the work. As used herein, “Author” means one of the authors of the Work; if there are multiple authors, each such Author shall complete and sign this Acknowledgment. 2. Author is the sole author of the Work, except as noted below: ________________________________________________ ________________________________________________ ________________________________________________; 3. Author is the original creator of the Work, with the exception of any other author referenced above, and with the exception of any parts of the Work that are specifically identified in the Work as being the work of another person; 4. For any parts of the Work that are specifically identified in the Work as being the work or another person, Author has obtained written consent and permission to use such person’s work for the purposes for which Author is using and intends to use the Work in connection with NC AWWA-WEA’s Publication and otherwise; 5. The Work, including the use of the Work by Author and by NC AWWA-WEA as contemplated herein, does not infringe upon the copyrights or property rights of another person; 6. To the extent the Work was prepared by Author as an employee as a part of Author’s job, or would otherwise be deemed a “work for hire” by a court of competent jurisdiction, Author has obtained the prior written consent of Author’s Employer (or Client, if appropriate) named above to use the Work and therefore has the capacity and authority to enter into this Acknowledgment for and on behalf of Author and Author’s Employer (or Client); 7. The Work does not and will not defame, libel, slander, harm or injure NC One Water or any third party. 8. Author hereby agrees to indemnify and hold harmless NC AWWA-WEA, its officers, trustees, directors, members, employees, insurers, agents and attorneys from and against any and all claims, demands and costs, including reasonable attorneys fees, arising out of or relating to Author’s breach of any of the foregoing warranties and representations, including without limitation, any claim or demand from any third party alleging Author’s breach of any of the foregoing warranties and representations. 9. Author hereby grants NC One Water a perpetual, non-exclusive license to copy, distribute, publish, reproduce the Work, to post the Work on its website, to include the Work, or parts of the Work, as a part of its educational programs that are sold to generate revenue for NC One Water or any copy or derivative thereof, to market and publicize the Work, and to use Author’s picture, name and other information to market and promote the Work, all without any fee or compensation paid or to be paid to Author by NC One Water; provided that Author is acknowledged by NC One Water as the author and creator or the Work. 10. Author understands that submissions are accepted or denied at the discretion of the Communication Committee Editorial Sub-Committee. If the Work is denied or reserved for a later issue, the Author shall be notified. If the Work is not accepted for publication in NC Currents this Agreement is null and void. 11. Author hereby accepts the right of NC One Water to edit the Work for spelling, punctuation, grammar, and style that is consistent with NC Currents. Should NC One Water wish to make substantive changes to the content of the Work, the Author understands that NC One Water will provide the Author with a final proof outlining those changes and that the Author’s approval of those changes shall be required prior to the publication or use by NC One Water.
